k1x 2012

K1X Shorty can be called the "little sister" of K1X. K1X was started in 1993 in Munich, Germany and is now one of the big names in basketball and streetwear, selling in over 40 countries worldwide. Ron Artest and Charles Oakley are just two big names that should be mentioned when it comes to collaborations!

In 2009 it was about time to think about the ladies! That's when "K1X Shorty" came to life. The Shorty line is inspired by dancing and the urban hip hop lifestyle. We always try to combine comfort with style, that's why the collections are versatile to wear, for hanging out with friends, dancing or even as a club outfit! Blazin colors, unique cuts and fun designs are the perfect mixture for sexy streetwear for young women.

Urban Steez: Tell us your name and how you came up with the name for your clothing line?

My name is Miriam. And we are “K1X Shorty” - a brand for young women, which could be considered the little sister of “K1X”, a basketball- and streetwear brand that was started in 1993. Due to overwhelming demand, we started an additional women's line in 2009. “Shorty” is inspired by dance culture and caters to the needs of dancers and clubbers.

Urban Steez: What is the concept behind your designs?

Miriam:Our designs unite comfort and functionality with style and sexiness. We want to fade the line between sportswear and streetwear - and to provide fly gear for the ladies. We want to create styles that can be worn on the dancefloor and on the streets alike.

Urban Steez: Nice, is there a specific group of people that you are trying to grab if so explain?

Miriam:We try to satisfy the needs of all types of dancers. Their clothes need to be very stylish, comfortable, eye-catching and durable. So if they are happy with the line, it should be fitting for everybody!

Urban Steez: What can we expect from your clothing line in the future?

Miriam:The inspiration to our collection will always come from dance culture and hip hop. But who knows what future trends await us? We focus on making dope basics (sweatpants, hotpants, tank tops...) and will launch our female footwear line this fall.

Urban Steez: Dope. What are your influences or inspiration behind your designs?

Miriam:Our main inspirations are the style of dancers and the hip hop lifestyle. Hip Hop remains a huge influence, especially considering the current 90'ies trend - and “Shorty” allows you to express that vibe with the added flavor of dance culture.

Urban Steez: I can dig that, I love the concept behind your designs. What do you feel separates your line from the rest?

Miriam:Our styles have an especially sporty feel to them. We mix loose cuts, which give the ability to move, with blazin' colors, that make the outfit stand out. That creates a special feeling which you can only find in our gear. “Shorty” is stylish and sexy, so you can wear it to the club or just for hanging out with your friends.

Urban Steez: Give us a few fashion tips that can be useful?

Miriam:- Glossy mags are fun, but only half the truth...

- Keep your eyes and mind open when it comes to fashion and don't be afraid of inspiration!

- If you have a geat day – dress like it! You will never look fake when your clothes match your mood!

Urban Steez: Good tips!! Give us one major “fashion NO-NO”?

Miriam:To me there aren't any real NO-NO's. If you look back, everything we once thought we would never wear (or never wear again...), eventually came back one day and kickstarted major cravings! Like animal prints, leggings or shoulder pads. If you wear something that's unfamiliar to everybody else, you can always claim to be ahead of the mob ;-)

Urban Steez: Well said…What have you learned being an up and coming line, Good and Bad?

Miriam:Being authentic is what matters! And that's what we are. There are tons of streetwear labels out there (and definitely tons of dope streetwear labels too)! So you need to find a way to stand out and give people a reason why they should choose YOUR stuff over any other. And “K1X Shorty” is as real as it get's. Inspired by the things we love and designed by people that are genuine about what they do!

Urban Steez: What is the best way to get a hold of your threads?

Miriam:Follow our blog (www.k1x.com/shorty), our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/k1x.shorty) and our retailers (like www.kickz.com/en/k1x-shorty)

Urban Steez: Every Clothing line usually has a “motto” or a “saying” that represents their clothing line, what is yours?

Urban Steez: Any additional words you like to say to your supporters?

Miriam:We are very thankful for all our supporters, who continuously help us to let world know who, what and why “K1X Shorty” is.
