Take torchy jazz balads from the 40's, contemporary neo soul, blues, and a dash of quirky art pop and you have Tessa Evans ever changing set list.  From the bay area to Los Angelos Tessa Evans has softly, yet strongly reminded us all that music is alive and well in the Sacramento and Bay Area markets. From Hope Productions Natalie Cole afterparty, The Park Ultra Lounge, David Girard Vineyards, Harlows, Marilyn's on K, Jb's Lounge, The Shady Lady, etc. Tessa Evans has managed to amass a wake of ardent fans wherever she performs. Her musical tableau effortlessly spans genres & decades. Tessa's voice reminds you of a time when digital pitch correction wasn't readily available & singers had to know their voice inside out. Her style has been distilled from artists like Anita Baker, Erykah Badu, Rickie Lee Jones, & Billie Holiday.

Tessa Evans - She Will (Lil Wayne Cover)

300x700tessa-evansUrban Steez: Tell everybody your name and what area you represent?

My name is Tessa Evans & I'm from Sacramento, Ca.

Urban Steez: How long have you been doing music and what made you get into music?

Tessa Evans : I've been singing & writing for as long as I can remember. Music has always been something I naturally gravitated towards.

Urban Steez: How would you describe your style and why? And what do you feel you can bring to the table as an artist?

Tessa Evans : My style is very eclectic! I'm drawing from artists as far back as the 1940's to new music. I would say I do Adult Contemporary/Pop music with some hot sauce thrown in...

Urban Steez: I noticed you have a very unique and tasteful sound. What do you feel has been your greatest experience thus far as a music artist and why?

Tessa Evans : I have new exciting experiences every day-this industry never fails to surprise & amaze!

Urban Steez: Nice, What do you feel is the biggest challenge you face being an artist?

Tessa Evans : My biggest challenge is to stay balanced. My music is a direct shadow of what I'm going through at the time, so if the songs get a little wild, my life is getting a little wild too. So I kind of oscillate between these different phases of going out, and then drawing back in to write about it in my music & reflect.

Urban Steez: I Hear that.. Who would you want to collaborate with in the music industry and why?

Tessa Evans : My top producer's would be Salaam Remi, Mark Ronson, & Babyface because they are all geniuses...

My top artists to work with at this point would be Miguel(bcuz of the voice), Frank Ocean(bcuz of his vibe), or Rihanna(bcuz she & her music are hot!).

Urban Steez: You named some legit artist, I can see you in that mix. So how do you feel you rank against top music talents today? And why?

Tessa Evans : Right now for the most part pop music is missing those really distinctive voices that as soon as you hear the voice, you know who the artist is. I feel Rick Ross is a great example of it, you don't have to hear his tag to know who that voice belongs to, and I love it!

I have my own distinctive style & tone, and I'm also different because I'm combining different cultures into my music. I might be singing an R&B song but be doing Middle eastern belly dancing on stage while I'm doing it…So I think I'm ready to compete with Top music talents.

Urban Steez: Well Said. What are you working on now and when can fans expect to hear more from you?

Tessa Evans : I'm currently working on my mix tape called, "Champagne & Cocaine" which is due to drop in February, & I'm also in the middle or recording my EP.

Urban Steez: Be sure to drop that our way we would love to promote it. So, Give readers one tip about pursuing their dreams?

Tessa Evans : Don't get discouraged at any point! If we have one life to live, make it count.

Urban Steez: So what do you want to accomplish as an overall artist?

Tessa Evans : As an artist I want to write, record, and perform great music that people get to hear all over the world. I hate staying in one place, so ultimately doing a worldwide tour would be amazing!

Urban Steez: Worldwide tours is blood, sweat, and tears but it pays off $$$$. If music never existed what do you think you would be doing?

Tessa Evans : Well my family says I'd probably be a lawyer because I have too much of a mouthpiece to be anything else!

Urban Steez: Lol.. Who and what are your influences?

Tessa Evans : That's a hard question! There are so many…Billie Holiday, Anita Baker, Rickie Lee Jones, D'angelo, Rachelle Ferrell and the list goes on!

Urban Steez: What do you think of the Pop/ music world right now?

Tessa Evans : I think its really evolving and changing right now. I love this industry, so it’s hard to say anything negative about it although it can be confusing at times. I think of it like a game of Tetris… its just fitting the right things together at the right time.

Urban Steez: What quote do you feel best represents you?

Tessa Evans : When I'm good I'm very, very good, but when I'm bad, I'm better. - Mae West

Urban Steez: Okay Miss Tessa!! What music do you have playing in your sound system right now?

Tessa Evans : I listening to T.I. right now, & Amy Winehouse is in the car stereo.

Urban Steez: I should have know some Amy Winehouse was in your rotation, I couldn’t help but to notice the similarities in music. Who is your celebrity crush?

Tessa Evans : Waka Flocka

Urban Steez: Okay, I see how you get down J/k..Laughing How can business heads and fans contact you in the future (myspace, email, number, etc.)?
