Dez is a 23 year old CEO and Designer of FlyKickz, a sneaker customizing company she started late 06.  Since then Dez has been featured in Vibe spot in Vibe magazine and was also Cargo tradeshow’s 1st Sneaker battle Champion. As far as shoes goes Dez is the business!! She has designed countless kicks, and continues to do so through FlyKickz. Now a shoe isn’t just a shoe but more of a work of art! Dez is originally from Trenton , NJ but moved to New York when she was 17, and now has made it her second home. She is currently designing in a new state but continues to travel to events to promote for her company, showcasing her talents to the world. Dez has proven to be an ambitious jersey girl, young, motivated & fly and shows promise in hard work and creativity and is fully ready for the journey ahead.

Urban Steez: Tell everybody your name and what area you represent?

Urban Steez: So what are FlyKickz about?

Dez: It’s about being motivated, fly and letting your soles speak for you. Most of all it’s about being different and thinking outside the box.

Urban Steez: How long have you been artistically designing shoes and what made you get into it?

Dez: I’ve been designing sneakers since 06 but I’ve always been into different types of art as a kid. What made me want to start designing sneakers was the idea of creating walking pieces of art.

Urban Steez: How would you describe FlyKickz style wise?

Dez: Creative, different and unrestricted.

Urban Steez: What tools do you use to design these kicks?

Dez: I paint everything by hand so a set of paint brushes some paint and good music. are the only tools I need.

Urban Steez: What have you been able to accomplish with FlyKickz and designing sneakers?

Dez: I’ve had the opportunity to meet and network with some great people at events like Dunkxchange, Sneaker Con, and SoleFood NYC to name a few. I became Cargo tradeshow’s 1st sneaker battle champion and my work was featured in the Vibe Spot in Vibe magazine.  I do however know I have a long journey ahead of me, so I have a lot more to look forward to.

Urban Steez: Good stuff !!What are the pros and cons of what you do?

Dez: The pros would be creating new designs and being able to share my work with people no matter their location. I try not to focus on the cons but it would definitely be biters from sneaker companies to other customizers who don’t give you the proper credit you deserve. I never let them get me down, I just try to stay focused and keep creating.

Urban Steez: Who would you want to collaborate your kicks with in the music industry and why?

Dez: Fat Joe, I dig his style and the fact that he always has a fly pair of kicks on. To be honest I’d like to collaborate with anyone that digs my work if given the chance.

Urban Steez: What are you working on now and when can fans expect to hear more from you?

Urban Steez: Sounds good!!  So, being that you’re a sneaker fanatic, give us the top 3 kicks to have in your closet other than FlyKickz?

Dez: Dunk Hi’s, Air max 90’s and a pair of J’s.

Urban Steez: Damn no creative recs, or chuck Taylors lol must be an LA thing!! Now as far as Nikes is concerned, dunks are my favorite! I notice most of your designs are on a fresh pair of dunks, any reason why?

Dez: Dunk hi’s fit me so well not to mention they were released in 85 like me.

Urban Steez: I see….Who are your influences?

Dez: My friends, family and the positive people I surround myself with influence and inspire me a lot. I’d also have to say I influence myself because I continue to want to be better with every passing day.

Urban Steez: What do you think of the hip hop/ music world right now?

Dez: I think people are just expressing who they are right now. Although not everyone may agree with what’s being said at times I chose to listen to things that make me feel good so I don’t complain much.

Urban Steez: I can dig that! Where do you see yourself a year from now?

Dez: Flyyer, taking FlyKickz to higher levels from magazines to posters, bigger events and definitely flyer kickz.
